Triparna Chakraborty crowned as Sleep Champion of India, receives Rs 5 lakh for sleeping well

New Delhi: What if you get paid for sleeping at work? Triparna Chakraborty, a 26-year-old from Kolkata won Rs 5 lakh for her excellent sleeping skills on August 24. She was crowned as the ‘First Sleep Champion of India’ under an internship programme by Wakefit.co.

Triparna applied for an internship programme for Wakefit.co, which is a D2C sleep solution and slept uninterruptedly for 9 hours for 100 consecutive days to win the crown. She won the live sleep-off after beating four contenders in the finale. The company put up a social media post announcing Triparna as the champion of the Wakefit Sleep Internship Season 2 and rating her skills with a sleep efficiency score of 95%.

Talking to India Today, she said, “For me, it was about the right person at the right place and at the right time. I was elated to have been one among the 5.5 lakh applicants.” She also emphasised the fact that eight hours of sleep is important for everyone to function well. She said, “In addition to hard work, sleep ensures efficiency.”

During the competition, the contestants were judged on parameters of sleep duration, awake time, light sleep, and deep sleep. Other finalists, which included Yogesh, Abadur, and Kushagra, also received a stipend of Rs 1 lakh each. The 100-day programme is run to spread awareness for quality sleep.

The first season of the competition had about 1.7 lakh applicants and after the success of season 2, Wakefit announced season 3. The firm has begun accepting applications for the next season, where a winner will get paid Rs 10 lakh for sleeping soundly for 9 hours every night for 100 nights.
