New Delhi: Every year, World Health Organization observes World Blood Donor Day to raise global awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products. This day is also observed to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

What is World Blood Donor Day?

World Blood Donor Day, is a blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system.

Global Theme of World Blood Donor Day 

The global theme for World Blood Donor Day doesn’t remain the same, it changes each year in recognition of the selfless individuals who donate their blood for people unknown to them.

Criteria and Requirements to donate Blood:

# Minimum age to donate blood is 18 years and maximum age is 65 years

# The weight of the person to donate blood should be minimum of 55kgs

# There should be a gap of 90 days in males to donate blood and 120 days in females.

# Pulse of the individual should be between 60- 100 bpm before blood donation and Haemoglobin should be >or =12.5g/dL

# The donor must had proper 8 hours of sleep

# Donor should not be fasting before the blood donation.

# Also, a person who had consumed alcohol ahead of donation are not allowed.

# The individual must be free from transmissible disease by blood transfusion.

# Donor should not be acute respiratory disease patient.
