New Delhi: World Population Day is observed on July 11 of every year across the globe to draw immediate attention to the growing population.
The day has been marked for past three decades and is meant to analyze how the world’s population affects our development plans and programs, and to find practical solutions to them.
The United Nations (UN) recognizes this day as a significant event to spread awareness regarding population issues around the world.
According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, “Reaching a global population of eight billion is a numerical milestone, but our focus should always be on the people. In the world we strive to build, eight billion people mean respectable people. And eight billion opportunities to live life to the fullest.”
Monday is #WorldPopulationDay.
This year the global population will reach 8 billion people – that’s 8 billion opportunities for lives of dignity in healthier societies empowered by rights & choices.
