New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar has begun his journey in his father’s footsteps as he scored a century in his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa. Sachin did the same when he made his debut for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. Arjun went on to score a hundred off 177 deliveries against Rajasthan at the Goa Cricket Association ground.

After two sessions on day 2 of the game, Arjun is playing at 112* (195) and has laid a 209*-run partnership with Suyash Prabhudessai, who is playing at 172* (357). Day 2 of the match has seen no wicket falling, but just runs raining from Arjun and Suyash’s bats. While Arjun has shown composure and technique, he has also hit 15 fours and 2 sixes.

In the game, Rajasthan got a good start after Kamlesh Nagarkoti struck, followed by Arafat Khan dismissing AS Desai. A 105-run stand between Suyash and Snehal Kauthankar helped Goa stabilise the inning. After Snehal got out for 59, Goa’s inning saw a collapse before Arjun Tendulkar walked in at 201/5. At Tea time during day 2, Goa stands in a comfortable position with 410/5 while Rajasthan’s batting line-up lacks the firepower to counter a big score.

Earlier this year, Arjun Tendulkar changed his team from Mumbai to Goa as the pace-bowling all-rounder did not get game time with Mumbai. He also played Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Goa this season. He picked eight wickets in Vijay Hazare and took four wickets in the T20 format. While he could not shine in Mumbai, he is standing up to the expectations with Goa.
