New Delhi: The Indian cricketing world is held by only one question: will Gautam Gambhir be the new head coach of Team India? It is probably the strongest rumour since Gambhir’s tenure with KKR ended with the 2024 IPL. Under “guru” Gambhir’s mentorship, the Knights went on to win the IPL finals in style.


Before KKR, Gambhir also led Lucknow Super Giants to IPL playoffs for back-to-back 2 seasons. Naturally, judging by GG’s report card he fits aptly for the role that the Indian national team is looking for.

The deadline for the application to the Indian national team has gone well past the cutoff date. The 27th of May was the last date to apply for the BCCI Head Coach position. However, as both Jay Shah and Gautam believe “desh ke liye karna hai…” there can be an interesting turnaround regarding the cutoff date.

Will the GG era begin after T20 WC 2024?

The entire buzz around Gautam’s appointment for the post of the position of Head Coach started after a report surfaced from the Cricbuzz. It read, “very high-profile owner of an IPL franchise, who is very close to the BCCI top brass.” It also said that the declaration will come out soon.


Moreover, the indication that Gautam has been contacted is from a “high profile commentator“. However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and Gautam Gambhir have still not reached an understanding. Earlier, a similar rumour had spread across the cricketing market after it was alleged that both Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting have been contacted for the coaching roles. To remove all the controversy, Shah said, “Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer…”


Now, a similar situation has come up again with Gautam’s appointment. The million-dollar question is how well will India flourish under Gautam. Only time can tell that to us. However, one thing is for sure there will be a massive change in the philosophy of the boys under GG.
