New Delhi: Team India tamed the Aussies in their own den. The Men in Blue breached the very fortress of Australia that it flaunted for 33 long years.
Chasing an unassailable target of 328 runs, Team India overpowered the bowling attack of the hosts and scored victory with few overs left for the day. It is to be noted that previous highest successful chase at Gabba was just 236 runs.
India’s historic victory at Brisbane has drawn praise from all quarters. Even the former Pakistani cricketers have gone gaga over Team India snatching the match from Australia.
Showing effusive praise on stellar performance by Team India, former Pak cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Inzamum-Ul-Haq took to social media and sang paeans for the Indian team especially the youngsters who showed immense grit, determination and character in putting their foot down and trouncing the Aussies on their soil.
Pak cricketing greats praise Team India’s youth power
Shoaib Akhtar said, “I have long been saying that Team India will win the Test Series against Australia. Today’s performance shows India’s steely resolve and ability to overpower a team like Australia in its fortress. It’s a good rejoinder to the humiliation meted out to them. India’s victory becomes even more special because of the firepower that youngsters unleashed on the field.”
“It was only me who kept saying that India will win the series’, he added.
Inzamum-Ul-Haq also showered lavish praise on Team India for spectacular show in Brisbane Test.
“Chasing a big target of 328 runs in second innings is no easy task. And, since it was youngsters who led the offensive, the victory becomes more special.”
He was also all praise for Test Captain Ajinkya Rahane for his strong leadership in holding the team together and putting a stupendous show despite receiving setback in previous tests.
“Gill and Rishabh were exceptional in hitting big scores. Rather, the approach of whole team was to rather vanquish the Aussies than just holding on the crease. Their aggressive and positive approach helped team snatch victory,” said Inzamam.
Rishabh’s heroics tilted the game
Rishabh Pant played the knock of his lifetime, thereby fulfilling his dream of leading team to victory.
He remained unbeaten on 89 runs while Cheteshwar Pujara contributed with 56 and Shubman Gill with 91. Earlier, it was a horrible start as India lost quick wickets in form of Rohit Sharma. But, Gill and Pujara stitched 114-run stand to put India in the driver’s seat.
