New Delhi: In one of the high-stakes playoff battle of Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) at Chepauk last night. The match didn’t offer much thrilling moments to fans but, the player who has become the cynosure of all eyes, post match, is the Mumbai Indians pace bowler Akash Madhwal.
Akash Madhwal’s brilliant bowling against LSG decimated the latter and ruined its all hopes. His pierce bowling attack against LSG batting line-up single handedly unsettled the innings from which latter couldn’t recover & failed miserably.
Akash Madhwal scalped a record five wickets in the playoff match while giving away just 5 runs in 3.3 overs. His spectacular 5/5 performance in the match decimated LSG & paved the way for MI’s entry into final round.
The five-wicket haul by Akash Madhwal is one of the rare occurrences in IPL seasons so far and probably the first in play-off stage. His performance is being lauded by many in the sports fraternity & fellow cricketers.
Though Mumbai Indians got good support from Cameron Green & Nehal Wadhera in form of their blistering knocks but his fierce bowling attack was enough to settle the match in its favour.
Batting first, MI chose to bat first and scored 182 runs at the loss of 8 wickets and then restricted LSG to 101 runs. It was an easy victory for MI on back of good knocks from Cameron & Nehal and strong bowling attack by Madhwal.
With 5 wickets for 5 runs in 3.3 over, the figure is the best by any bowler in the IPL knock-out stages. With this, he also equaled the record of legendary cricketer Anil Kumle in knockout stages.
Madhwal, an engineer who turned cricketer
Though, Madhwal created a record of sorts, he is not very much old to this format of game. He started off sometime ago and it was just his 7th game of the season.
Madhwal is an engineer turned cricketer. He gave up his job to pursue his dream and went to become a cricketer. He earned his stripes in tennis ball circuit of Uttarakhand.
He joined the Uttarakhand domestic cricket team in 2018 and since then there has been no looking back.
His Yorkers were talked about at that time and with time, this only went to become one of his USPs.
