New Delhi: Mohammed Shami who had a decent season in the domestic circuit for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy season is trying to make a comeback in the national team as well. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants the right-arm pacer to board the next flight to Australia and help the Indian team claim a thumping win at Adelaide.
The right-arm pacer was not named for India’s ongoing tour of Australia due to his injury before he recovered and became available for Bengal to play a Ranji Trophy game. Currently, Shami is playing for his domestic stateside- West Bengal, now in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – a domestic T20 tournament.
The right-arm pacer continues to take giant strides in his comeback trail as he produced a sharp spell of 4-0-16-0 to help Bengal restrict Meghalaya to a modest 127 for six.
When is the Adelaide test between India and Australia?
The India vs Australia match which is scheduled to take place in Adelaide will take place on the 6th of December and will start from 9:30 am (IST).
Is BCCI keen on tinkering with the bowling lineup?
BCCI is keen to include Shami for India’s ongoing five-match Test series against Australia, but a lot depends on the fitness of the pacer. Furthermore, Nitin Patel, the head of the BCCI’s Sports Science wing at the new Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, along with trainer Nishant Bardule, besides selector SS Das, have been stationed in the Saurashtra city to monitor Shami.
The board is currently assessing whether Shami can endure the workload of a Test match rather than to exactly assess his pace, form and rhythm. Shami will be considered for India’s Test squad only after he gets a clearance from the Sports Science Department. While his performance in the T20 circuit may not earn him a direct ticket to Australia, his domestic performances will back the quotient of endurance which the board wants from Shami.
