PM Modi set to inaugurate the National Center of Excellence at the redeveloped Dr Sampurnanand Stadium

The Sampurnanand Stadium is a sporting complex built under the Khelo India initiative in the Sigra Area.

New Delhi: India’s sporting infrastructure has received a major boost under the present NDA government. Along with the sporting infrastructure, many schemes like the TOPS scheme and the Khelo India schemes have provided Indian sportspersons with a lot of opportunities to shine in the national and international circuit.

Now, to give a further boost to the Indian sporting scenario, honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate phases 2 and 3 of the National Center of Excellence at the redeveloped Dr Sampurnanand Stadium. The event will take place on October 20 in Modi’s constituency in Varanasi.

What is the Sampurnanand Stadium?

The Sampurnanand Stadium is a sporting complex built under the Khelo India initiative in the Sigra Area. The facility is equipped with a 150-room hostel for players with state-of-the-art facilities. The stadium has the capacity to host 50 games including Judo, Karate, Table Tennis, Shooting, Lawn Tennis, Cricket and Hockey as per international standards.

Furthermore, the multilevel sports facility provides 10 courts for badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, kabaddi, an Olympic size swimming pool, a practice/warm-up pool, four courts for board games like chess, carrom, squash, billiards, aerobics, cross-training, a cardio zone, a recovery zone, strength and conditioning zone. It also provides facilities for shooting, cricket practice fields, volleyball, football, basketball, athletic tracks, and tennis courts among others.

With this facility, the Indian Sporting scenario looks well set to improve in the coming years. Fans would also like to see an improvement in the medal section in the upcoming international tournaments, especially the Olympics where India has failed to perform time and again.
