New Delhi: South Africa has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the UAE from October 3 to 20.
The South African team will be led by their newly-appointed captain Laura Wolvaardt. Talking about the leadership of Laura Wolvaardt, CSA Proteas Women Convenor of Selectors Clinton du Preez said-
Laura (Wolvaardt) has been exceptional as a leader, bringing a holistic approach to the team…
This will be the first time that Laura will be leading the Proteas in a World Cup. Earlier, Sune Luus had led South Africa to its maiden T20 World Cup final before stepping down from the captaincy role in August last year. Luus will however be a part of the T20 squad to bring experience to the side along with Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonda Khaka and Chloe Tryon.
However, the star attraction of the South African squad will be the 18-year-old sensation, the uncapped leg-spinner Seshine Naidu. Naidu was drafted directly into the senior squad after delivering significant performance in the U19 circuit and the Emerging team in the last 2 years.
