Following the fall of the coalition government last Tuesday in a trust vote, Yeddyurappa met the Governor this morning to stake claim to form the Government.
The trust vote is scheduled for Monday after the House was adjourned in the wake of the Assembly failing to meet the two deadlines set by Governor Vajubhai Vala to complete the trust vote on July 19, amid heated arguments between the MLAs during the debate.
Kumaraswamy said he has already written to the Governor in this regard on Friday informing him that the house was already considering the confidence motion and the debates are currently ongoing.
Ahead of the trust vote, leaders from Congress, BJP and JD(S) have started arriving at the state assembly. Yeddyurappa, along with other BJP lawmakers, reached the assembly about an hour before the commencement of today's session. Congress leader Siddaramaiah also arrived at Vidhana Soudha.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the MLAs, told reporters, "In view of trust vote kept for tomorrow, the Supreme Court has said two important things - the 15 MLAs will not be compelled to attend the House tomorrow. All the 15 MLAs are given the liberty that they may or may not go to the House tomorrow."
Mukul Rohatgi: The three-line whip issued against them (rebel MLAs) to attend the House tomorrow is not operative in view of the SC judgement. Secondly, the Speaker has been given time to decide on the resignations as and when he wants to decide.
Kumaraswamy had on Friday told the Speaker that he was ready to seek a trust vote or face a no-confidence motion during the session which will go on till July 26.
I will advise Kumaraswamy to resign immediately because more than 15 MLAs from JD(S) and Congress have resigned. Two independent ministers have also resigned and met Governor to declare that they would support Bharatiya Janata Party. So you (the CM) does not have the majority,
Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has also claimed that they will overcome the current bout of crisis as well. All the ministers from the two parties have resigned as well to give a free hand to Kumaraswamy to restructure his Council of Ministers and accommodate the dissident MLAs.
