PM Modi dubbed the designation of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Azhar as the third strike against Pakistan after the surgical strikes in 2016 and the February airstrikes.
The US State Department said, the listing requires all UN member states to implement an assets freeze, a travel ban, and an arms embargo against Azhar. UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office termed it a positive development for the South Asian region.
The announcement comes a day after China, on Tuesday, called for "political consultation within the framework of 1267 Committee" to resolve the issue pertaining to the listing of Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN.
