Micromax, once ‘India’s No 1 brand’ to make comeback in smartphone market soon….watch founder’s video message

New Delhi: Micromax, India’s most popular mobile brand not long ago, on Friday announced its re-entry into the smartphone market, with its uniquely designed ‘In’ range of smartphones.

Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma took to Twitter to make the big announcement via a short video.

In the video, Rahul Sharma recalls the journey of Micromax mobile into every corner of the country and how it got ‘wiped out’ in Indian market after the advent of Chinese makers.

Starting 2016, Micromax and a couple of other homegrown companies failed to survive in the Indian smartphone market as they failed to launch 4G phones at affordable price.

Making a renewed push for homegrown smartphone, Micromax co-founder also said that after Modi govt’s call for “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), the company has now decided to make a comeback with its “In” range of smartphones.

The company has also confirmed to invest Rs 500 crore on expanding local manufacturing and research and development (R&D) operations as it prepares for re-entry into smartphone market.

Micromax to give Chinese smartphone brands a run for money

Sharma said that the company will learn from the past mistakes and launch new products in India. However, details about the first Micromax smartphone under the “In” branding are currently unknown. No estimated launch date of the smartphone has yet been announced.

“The new PLI scheme balances out foreign and Indian players. The support of 6 percent is big and with the government support, we will be able to fight Chinese brands fiercely on the pricing front,” a leading online portal Sharma as saying.

Earlier also, Micromax teased to make a comeback with hashtags #MadeByIndian and #MadeForIndian in its previous tweets to support the boycott products by Chinese companies in India.
