New Delhi: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its PSLV-C55 with two Singaporean satellites TeLEOS-2 and Lumelite-4, for Earth observation, from SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota. The satellites are to be sent into an Eastward low-inclination orbit, for the commercial mission. The satellites were launched on April 22 at 14:19 hours IST.
TeLEOS-2 is the primary satellite and Lumelite-4 is the co-passenger satellite and they weigh about 741 kg and 16 kg, respectively. The statement issued by ISRO says that the TeLEOS-2 satellite is developed under a partnership between DSTA and ST Engineering. TeLEOS-2 will be used to support the satellite imagery requirements of the Government of Singapore and will provide all-weather day and night coverage.

On the other hand, the LUMELITE-4 satellite is developed by the Institute for Infocomm Research of A*STAR and the Satellite Technology and Research Centre (STAR) of the National University of Singapore. It is a type 12U satellite, which will help with the technical demonstration of the High-Performance Space-borne VHF Data Exchange System (VDES). The satellite aims to aid Singapore’s e-navigation maritime safety and the global shipping community.
After the successful launch of the PSLV-C55, ISRO chief S Somanath addressed the scientists and congratulated them for completing the mission. He added that the launch vehicle once again proved its reliability for commercial missions of this class.

ISRO used PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM-2) in the mission. TeLEOS-2 carries a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload and the payloads in the mission belong to ISRO, Dhruva Space, Bellatrix, and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).
