Parag Agrawal faces online racist abuse after being appointed as new CEO of Twitter

Parag Agrawal

New Delhi: Soon after Parag Agrawal became the CEO of Twitter on Monday after the co-founder Jack Dorsey announced his resignation from the respective post, the former has been exposed to racial abuse on the micro-blogging site. Racists on Twitter flooded with comments denigrating him for his Indian origin.

Words like “curry” and “pajeet” were thrown at him on social media.

See how netizens reacted:

One of the users called Parag “curry muncher,” which is a derogatory racial abuse.

Several users made abuses against him on the same line. “Curry” is a racial slur hurled at Indians. Initially, it was used by foreigners who considered Indian food to be too spicy which soon developed into racial abuse shown towards the Indians.

Other Twitteratis called him “street pooper” and “pajeet.” “Pajeet” is another racial slur used towards the Indians.

Some of the users called him a Brahmin, while some others called him a ‘Tamil Brahmin’ which he actually isn’t. Parag is a North Indian Baniya.

The racists believe that the micro-blogging site will turn more left-leaning because of Parag being a Brahmin.
