Atlanta in US: Spirit Airlines plane catches fire due to fault in brakes

New Delhi: A plane of Spirit Airlines catches fire in the US’ Atlanta after breaks in landing gear ignited on Monday, according to reports. The incident happened on Sunday morning when the plane was making a landing at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in the US’ Georgia state. It is reported the plane catches fire after one of its landing gear brakes overheated.

However, the fire department at the airport managed to put out the fire at 9:25 AM, said the Airport in its statement. The prompt action of airport authorities stopped any casualties. The Spirit said, ”Upon landing one of the brakes of Spirit Flight 383 from Tampa to Atlanta overheated.”

”Thank you to the Atlanta first responders for immediately meeting the aircraft. The plane has been sent for maintenance till then its services will be stopped,” the airline added in the statement.

After putting out the fire, it was towed to the gate where passengers were safely deplaned.

”At 925 am today, brakes in the landing gear of @SpiritAirlines flight 383 from Tampa ignited. @ATLFireRescue put out the fire and the aircraft was towed to gate D2 where passengers disembarked. There were no injuries reported and operations have not been impacted.,” wrote the Atlanta Airport on Twitter.

Last month, a Red Air plane caught on fire at Miami International Airport in Florida, injuring three people.
