Two rockets hit Green Zone in Iraq’s Baghdad

The new attack comes after Iran fired a number of missiles at two Iraqi bases housing US troops Wednesday local time in retaliation for the American strike that killed military general Qassem Soleimani last week in a Pentagon-ordered airstrike near Baghdad International Airport.

New Delhi: There have been no injuries in the rocket fire that hit the Green Zone of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, where government agencies and foreign embassies are located, the country’s security services said.

On late Wednesday, a source in the Iraqi security services told Sputnik that two rockets had fallen in the Green Zone.

“Two Katyusha rockets fell in the Green Zone, no people were injured,” the security services’ press service wrote on the Twitter page on late Wednesday.

The new attack comes after Iran fired a number of missiles at two Iraqi bases housing US troops Wednesday local time in retaliation for the American strike that killed military general Qassem Soleimani last week in a Pentagon-ordered airstrike near Baghdad International Airport.

In the immediate aftermath of Soleimani’s killing, Trump repeatedly stressed that the deadly drone strike was meant to reduce violence.
