New Delhi: French automaker Citroen is finally launching its much-awaited flagship SUV C5 Aircross in India. The premium 5-seater SUV will available to buy in the Indian market from April 7, 2021. The SUV was already available for booking through Citroen’s La Maison dealership and online for a token amount of ₹50,000.
Citroen will sell their C5 Aircross as a CKD unit in India, which means parts of car will be imported and then they will be assembled here in India. The local assembling for the same has already started at the CK Birla plant situated in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. C5 Aircross will face competition from Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Citroen’s SUV will be available in two variants – Feel and Shine and the price is expected to be around ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Exterior
Chunky and bold design of the SUV grabs attention immediately and it also comes with a strong road presence. Feel, the lower variant does not have the LED headlamps, taillights and panoramic sunroof which are there in the top-end Shine variant.
Interior
French automaker claims that the interior of the car has been designed to offer best-in-class comfort. Citroen also claims that no other automaker in India currently focuses on the comfort level for the driver and the occupants, but they have given a special attention to that.
The car comes with an array of features which include – a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, hands-free parking, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable ORVMs and electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Some other featurea are automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control and key-less entry which are standard features.
The SUV gets three individual seats at the rear which can slide and recline independently. Seats can also be folded to create more space for luggage or the occupants.
In terms of safety and security, C5 Aircross gets 6 airbags, ESC, traction control, blind spot monitor, hill start assist, hill descent control along with front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, ABS with EBD and TPMs.
Engine and Mileage
The Citroen C5 Aircross is powered by a a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged-diesel engine which gives 177 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The engine comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
C5 Aircross claims to give an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18.6 kmpl.
