LML makes comeback in Indian market with three electric two-wheelers

The firm shut the business in India and is set to make a return with plans to raise up to Rs 500 crore to set up its manufacturing facility to assemble the EVs.

New Delhi: LML is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and will be returning to the Indian market with three new electric two-wheelers. The company unveiled the three EVs, which include, an electric scooter and two electric bikes. Electric scooter Star and e-bikes Orion and Moonshot will be launched in the market in 2023.

LML, known for ‘Vespa’, gave a glimpse of the three EVs set to launch next year. The firm shut the business in India and is set to make a return with plans to raise up to Rs 500 crore to set up its manufacturing facility to assemble the EVs. The first launch will be the electric bike Orion, while Star and Moonshot will be launched in the second half of 2023.

At the launch event, Managing Director Dr Yogesh Bhatia said that it has been a long and arduous journey for the last couple of years. Talking about the EVs he said what has emerged is not just engineering marvels but products which deliver an ’emotion’ which can only be experienced not expressed. He added that the products will redefine the norms of personal and urban commutes while setting new standards of safety, intuitive intelligence, and unmatched ride quality. Actor-model Milind Soman was also present at the event.

Star has a modern design and headlamp glass is also extended slightly to act as a fly screen. The scooter will have a fully digital screen and rear shock absorbers. The Orion is an e-bicycle which will allow to have a high speed and light weighted ride. Meanwhile, Moonshot is a hyperbike, somewhere in between a bike and a bicycle.
