New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices have witnessed a sky-rocketing hike in recent days. Seeing the difficulty experienced by commoners, the Centre and the state announced excise cuts. The Centre has announced a cut in the price of petrol by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 10 per litre in diesel.
Following a dual tax cut across most parts of the country, the prices of petrol and diesel remained constant on November 6. Recently, the Indian government has declared an excise duty cut on the prices of petrol and diesel. With this, several BJP ruled states have announced a discount of the Value Added Tax or VAT.
The step was followed by 22 states and Union Territories. Apart from Maharashtra, Delhi, and West Bengal which are ruled by other political parties, the BJP and its partner ruled states witnessed stepper reduction in prices of petrol and diesel.
“Government of India has taken a significant decision of reducing Central Excise Duty on Petrol & Diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from tomorrow. Prices of petrol and diesel will thus come down accordingly,” stated the finance ministry in a statement.
“The Government of India has made efforts to ensure that there is no energy shortage in the country and that commodities such as petrol and diesel are available adequately to meet our requirements,” it added.
