US like roads in India by 2024: Nitin Gadkari’s next target

The Union Transport Minister also informed the House after government’s plan to scale up the number and quality of expressways by 2024 and also how this will not just cut down travel time between major cities of the country and also will add to the convenience of commuting long distances.

New Delhi: Road Transport Ministry under the stewardship of Nitin Gadkari is taking big strides and setting new milestones in taking the transport & commutation to next level.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in his recent address to Parliament said that the quality of roads will become at par with the United States soon.

“Roads in India will be the same as in the United States by 2024,” said Gadkari while speaking in the Zero House session in the Rajya Sabha, as part of the ongoing Monsoon Session.

The Union Transport Minister also informed the House after government’s plan to scale up the number and quality of expressways by 2024 and also how this will not just cut down travel time between major cities of the country and also will add to the convenience of commuting long distances.

Referring to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, opened for public last year, the Minister said that it used to earlier take 4.5 hours to travel but now people are covering the same distance in just 40 minutes.

The Minister has been going great guns in the implementation of modern technology in transportation. He made the Fastags compulsory at the highway tolls, making the traffic movement faster and made the high-security number plate compulsory for all commuters to keep a check on crimes. Though all these steps were met with resistance initially but eventually the implementation has been smoother and in larger public interest.
