Amazon layoffs in India: Around 500 employees in India laid off , says Reports

New Delhi: Amazon laid off around 500 employees in India, as a part of the 9,000 global job cuts which was announced by CEO Andy Jassy in March, reports said.

According to reports, the India layoffs has been carried out in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Human Resources (HR).

However, Amazon is yet to confirm the news of layoffs.

People familiar to this matter also said that some employees who have been laid off from the company are part of Amazon’s global teams functioning from India.

In the note to the Amazon staff was posted online. CEO Andy Jassy while announcing 9,000 job cuts said that the decision was made on the analysis of priorities and uncertainty about the economy.

Amazon is one of the large tech companies who are cutting jobs including Meta and Google.

In April, this year, the Amazon.com Inc. laid off about 100 employees in its video-game divisions. This affected employees of Prime Gaming, Game Growth and the company’s San Diego studio.

It was in January this year, when Amazon first announced that it would lay off approximately 18,000 employees. The decision following the decline of tech stocks across the globe.

Reports also said that e-commerce business-Amazon in India has experienced a slowdown in growth. It also highlighted the challenging market conditions in the country.

In the past six months, around Tens of thousands of people across the world have lost their jobs as global technology giants are on a layoff spree globally.
