Amul raises milk prices by Rs 3 per litre from today

There will be a Rs 3 per litre hike in the prices of milk dispatched from the night of February 2, which means, February 3 onwards.

New Delhi: Popular milk and dairy brand Amul has announced a raise in the price of fresh milk. There has been a Rs 3 per litre hike in the prices of milk dispatched from the night of February 2, which means, February 3 onwards. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., which markets dairy products under Amul, issued a notice to all their AMDs, retailers and consumers about the latest price hike.

The notice dated February 2 informed that the prices of all variants of Amul Pouch Milk have been hiked by Rs 3 per litre. The one-litre pouch of Amul Taaza milk will now cost Rs 54 to consumers, while Amul Gold is priced at Rs 66 per litre, Amul Cow milk at Rs 56 per litre and Amul A2 Buffalo milk at Rs 70 per litre.

Last year in October, Amul raised the prices of its Gold, Taaza and Shakti milk brands by Rs 2 per litre. The hike came as an effect of an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. The dairy brand said that the cost of feeding cattle alone has increased to approximately 20 per cent. The lumpy skin disease among cattle can also be considered a factor behind the increase in cattle cost.

The hike in the price will not affect Gujarat as Amul milk will be sold at unchanged prices in the state.

In the last 10 months, milk rates have increased by Rs 12.  Gowardhan also raised the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre. The private brand has increased milk prices twice in one month.
