FIR against ‘Shark Tank India’ fame Ashneer Grover, family in Rs 81 cr fraud case

The FIR has been filed in the complaint filed in December 2022, by a Delhi-based fintech unicorn alleging criminal breach of trust, cheating, conspiracy, and forgery against Grover.

New Delhi: Amid the legal battle against his former firm BharatPe, entrepreneur Ashneer Grover has been named in another FIR alleging an Rs 81 crore fraud. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police registered an FIR and named Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover, and family members Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain, and Shwetank Jain in the case.

The FIR has been filed in the complaint filed in December 2022, by a Delhi-based fintech unicorn alleging criminal breach of trust, cheating, conspiracy, and forgery against Grover. EOW has registered the FIR under sections of cognizable criminal offenses, including 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

Delhi Police said that EOW received a complaint against the named people and conducted an inquiry as reported by Mint.

Ashneer Grover, who became a star after ‘Shark Tank India’, is facing five lawsuits, registered in the last six months. The co-founder of BharatPe was accused of financial irregularities in the fintech company. In March 2022, he was also terminated from the firm.

BharatPe filed a civil suit in Delhi High Court seeking recovery of 88.67 crore from Grover and his family. He has been sued by the company in the matter of ‘unpaid shares’ and BharatPe also filed an arbitration claim in Singapore to get back the restricted 1.4 percent shares allotted to Ashneer. He cannot use the title of founder of BharatPe anymore.

Ashneer Grover

Ashneer Grover was one of the Sharks in ‘Shark Tank India Season 1’ coming on board as an investor. He did not feature in the next season after facing backlash amid lawsuits and financial irregularities. He also penned the book ‘Doglapan: The Hard Truth about Life and Start-Ups’, titled after his catchphrase in the reality show.
