New Delhi: The last date to file Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the financial year 2021-22 is today (July 31). There were reports about several issues in the past few day, where the users demanded to extend the ITR due date.
However, the government seems not in the mood to listen to the request.
Taxpayers can still file their ITR by the last date. The last date of filing the ITR is December 31 but for this you have to pay a fee.
As per Section 234A of the Income Tax Act of 1961, any delay beyond July 31 can attract interest on the tax due.
Late fee for those whose taxpayers whose annual income is up to Rs 5 lakh is Rs 1,000.
According to reports, so far over three crore ITRs have been filed on e-Filing portal till July 25th, 2022.
