Maharashtra: FDA cancels manufacturing licence of Johnson’s Baby powder 

In a big action over quality standards, Maharashtra Food & Drugs Administration cancelled the manufacturing license of Johson’s Baby Powder.

New Delhi: In a big action over quality standards, Maharashtra Food & Drugs Administration cancelled the manufacturing license of Johson’s Baby Powder of Johnson’s & Johnson’s Pvt. Ltd’s manufacturing unit, situated in Mumbai’s Mulund on Friday. It is reported that a team of FDA took samples from the company’s Pune & Nashik and found it ”not of standard quality”. Following the development, the department put a ban on the company’s manufacturing unit in Mumbai.

A press note issued by the department said they have also issued a show cause notice to the firm as to why such action should not be taken.

”The administration issued show cause notice to the firm under Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules there under as to why the action like suspension or cancellation of a manufacturing licence or product manufacturing licence should not be taken. Also issued instructions to recall the stock of the said product from the market,” read the note

It further added that the use of the product can affect the health of the skin of newborn babies. The department said the action has been taken in the interest of the public health at large.
