New Delhi: Food delivery firm Swiggy delivered 3.5 lakh biryani orders on December 31 and by 10:25 PM the company dispatched over 61,000 pizzas across India. As per the numbers, biryani was the top order for Swiggy on New Year’s eve. Out of the total, the app delivered 1.65 lakh biryani orders at 7:20 PM on December 31.

Talking about biryani sales, a company source told PTI that Bawarchi, one of the top biryani-selling restaurants in Hyderabad as they delivered two biriyanis per minute on New Year’s Eve of 2021, and for 2022, it prepared 15 tonnes of biryani in total. While people were enjoying biryanis, about 12,344 people across the country ordered khichdi by 9:18 PM.

Biryani was such a hit for Swiggy that it also put out a poll on Twitter, asking its customers to guess which biryani, out of Lucknowi, Hyderabadi and Kolkata, was ordered the most. Netizens also rated Hyderabadi biryani higher than the two.

In another tweet, the company shared that Dominos India delivered 61,287 pizzas and they could only imagine the number of oregano packets going with those orders. Swiggy CEO Sriharsha Majety also tweeted and wrote that they have already delivered over 1.3 million orders by the evening and their fleet and restaurant partners are ready to make the New Year’s Eve ‘unforgettable’ for their customers.

Sharing the data regarding Swiggy Instamart on Twitter, the firm wrote that 1.76 lakh packets of chips by 7 PM. Swiggy Instamart also delivered 2,757 packets of Durex condoms on Saturday.
