Explained: What is Flurona, the new Covid concern?

New Delhi: While countries across the world are suffering from challenging economy and health conditions due to the spike in the coronavirus cases amidst the various of concern ‘Omicron’, a new entity ‘Flurona’ has brought in some fresh worries.

What is Flurona?

As per the experts, the new entity is not a new variant, but a case double infection. A patient could be having Flurona if he/she gets infected with Covid-19 and some influenza viruses in their body at the same time.

The condition here shows a similarity with ‘Delmicron’, where Delta and Omicron strains of Covid-19 attacks the body together.

First Case of Flurona: 

The first case of the double infection was reported on December 31 in Israel, where a pregnant woman was found to be infected Flurona. The woman had been admitted to a medical center for her delivery and had relatively mild symptoms. She was also not vaccinated against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, India has reported 37,379 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the daily positivity rate in the country to 3.24 per cent.

With this, the country’s COVID-19 case tally has risen to 3,48,08,886, while 1,892 cases of Omicron has been reported so far, out of which 766 have been recovered.
