From 10 crore doses to 10 crore fully vaccinated: India’s vaccination drive setting new milestones

India, with its humungous population, has carried out world’s largest vaccination drive with impeccable speed. Till date, about 45 crore people have been vaccinated with at least 1 vaccine jab while those fully vaccinated are set to cross 10 crore by today or tomorrow.

New Delhi: Amid the rising threat of Delta variant, WHO chief Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus called for vaccinating at least 10% of entire population across the world by September, as this remains the only effective tool to take on deadly Coronavirus.

Many countries scaled up their efforts to vaccinate their population. Spain has the highest number of 55.5% population fully vaccinated with both doses while many other countries like Canada and United Kingdom are closely following it with 55.2% and 54.8% population.

In April, India became the fastest nation to administer 100 million doses in 85 days, leaving behind US & China which took 89 and 102 days to do the same.

As of today, the number of people vaccinated with single dose stand at 34.5 crores while those vaccinated with both doses stand at 9.5 crores. Together, they will make up for around 45 crores and is well within reach to meet expected target of vaccinating 50 crore people by end of July.

Maharashtra has become the first state to inoculate more than 1 crore people with both doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

Among other states, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have administered more than 1 crore doses of vaccine, till date.

As on 27th July, 2021, more than 35 lakh people were vaccinated by 5 PM, as per data available on Cowin App.

Critics may argue that even inoculation of 10 crore people with both jabs isn’t enough, but this speaks volumes about momentous task that the Centre undertook with great efficiency and on fast-track mode.
