New Delhi: India will soon see rollout of the world’s first DNA vaccine against COVID-19 vaccine. ZyCoV-D, has been developed by Zydus Cadila.
In India, ZyCoV-D got market approval in August.
The vaccine will be used on children above the age of 12.
Taking about the Immune Response, Dr. Gagandeep Kang said:
Once the protein is made inside the cells it can be displayed in the surfaced of the cell or it can be released outside. The body recognizes the protein as foreign and response to it by making a immune response so that it can attach the cells.
If we have antibodies to the spike protein than the virus can be blocked.
Not all vaccines on the same platform have same efficacy.
This is different from Pfizer vaccine.
This is a vaccine on a completely new platform, so it would be better to introduce it first on adult before giving it to the children.
The MNRA vaccine looked safer at the clinical trial, and it went from the adult then to the younger individual.

The ZyCoV-D vaccine is a needle-free vaccine.
It will be administered intradermally which is to be done by using PharmaJet.
This will help in administering the vaccine to kids.
Each ZyCoV-D dose is a 2mg x 3 dose, which makes it a vaccine of six mg in totality.
The ZyCoV-D vaccine is a plasmid DNA vaccine. It uses non-replicating DNA molecules. As per Zydus Cadila, the vaccine which when administered produces the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and elicits an immune response mediated by the cellular and humoral arm of the human immune system, which plays a vital role in protection from disease as well as viral clearance.
