Omicron found in 84 per cent of Covid samples tested: Delhi Health Minister

Omicron in Delhi: Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that there is a surge in Covid19 case due to the new variant

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said that according to the genome sequencing reports of December 30-31, Omicron infection has been found in 84 per cent of Covid samples that has been tested.

He further said that the variant has come from outside India.

Further attacking the Modi led government, he said that despite asking the Centre to stop the fight, the government did not.

Delhi reports 3,194 fresh Covid cases, Positivity rate rises to 4.59%

He said that there is a rapid increase in the covid19 case due to the new variant. However, over 4000 fresh covid cases has been reported on Monday (January 3rd).

According to the Health bulletin, Delhi reported 4,099 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the positivity rate to 6.46 per cent.

“Due to Omicron variant, Delhi has witnessed an increase in COVID-19 cases however the symptoms are mild and fewer people require hospitalization. In the last 24 hours, as many as 202 patients are hospitalised due to COVID-19”, said the minister.

“There is no need to panic, you can escape COVID-19 by following safety protocols”, added Jain. He further assured people that the COVID-19 situation in Delhi is under control and hospitalisation is less as compared to last year.

“Experts say that it Omicron will spread at a faster pace but will also come down fast, taking the example of South Africa”, the minister said. “Till now no Omicron patient required a ventilator support,” added Jain.
