150 days to Adipurush release: Rs 600 crore budget movie & the controversies that it got entangled into

Originally, the movie was slated to hit the theatres on January 12, but the outrage generated by the teaser pushed the makers to redo a lot of work.

New Delhi: Adipurush is probably going to be one of those movies, which use public outrage to their advantage. Because remember, there is no such thing as negative publicity, but for sure it can cost you a sum.

When the movie makers released the teaser back in October 2022, the movie became a topic of debate on national television. Originally, the movie was slated to hit the theatres on January 12, but the outrage generated by the teaser pushed the makers to redo a lot of work.

Rumors say that movie makers allotted 100 crores to redo the ‘offensive’ VFX and editing. The total budget of Adipurush is a whooping amount of 600 crores.

Now, finally, we can say the wait is over and team Adipurush has revealed the release date.

Adipurush is now slated to get released on 16 June 2023. Now, the makers are very cautious to not provoke new controversies. The first thing that indicates this is Adipurush’s new poster which uses a quote from Ramayana instead of putting up a character from the movie.

The movie will be released in 3D in accordance with its spectacular VFX.

Early Controversies

The main controversy around the movie was about the look of the main characters. The movie is a modern-day portrayal of Ramayana, so naturally many people were upset when they saw Lord Ram, Laxman, and even Ravana in an unusual getup.

Fans rejected Saif Ali Khan playing Ravana as his get-up resembled ‘Khilji’ according to some with dark kajal in his eyes and spikey hair. The audience also didn’t think Prabhas is a well fit to play Rama.

Adipurush’s Laxman, who is played by Sunny Singh, also rubbed the audience the wrong way after he was seen wearing a leather belt in the teaser.

Director’s clarification

The Director Om Raut released his latest statement saying that Adi Purush is not just a movie but his devotion to Lord Rama. He also said that the film is a representation of our commitment to our culture and history.

Earlier, Om Raut got candid about how the backlash upset him and he defended the movie by saying,” it is meant for the big screen.”
