New Delhi: The long-awaited anime adaptation of Hatsuharu’s iconic shojo manga, A Girl & Her Guard Dog, will arrive on the streaming giant on February 1, 2024.
Anime lovers who like touching and slice-of-life stories will definitely want to check out this one, directed by Nobuhiro Takamoto and featuring music by Aya Satsuki.
Storyline
The protagonist of A Girl & Her Guard Dog is a yakuza boss’s granddaughter, Isaku, who is fifteen years old. Aiming for a regular existence, she enrols in high school, determined to escape her family’s peculiar notoriety. But Keiya, who has been watching out for her faithfully, decides to disguise himself as a classmate to keep her safe.
Despite Isaku’s initial resistance, he eventually comes to really value Keiya’s constant encouragement. From overcoming bullies to making friends and delving into the nuances of teenage love, they face high school life together. Isaku and Keiya learn more about one another and themselves as their adventure progresses.
When to Watch?
Prior to its October 28, 2023, release on Crunchyroll, the anime series debuted on Japanese television on September 28, 2023.
The series will finally be available on Netflix on February 1, 2024.
Voice Artist
Mikio Tanuki will be voiced by Junya Enoki, Kaori Sekiya by Mai Nakahara, and the protagonist, Isaku Senagaki, will be voiced by Akari Kito. With such a strong ensemble, the fans will surely be in for something really special.
Other Details about the Series
Both the plot and the music in the anime are really engaging. Masayoshi Oishi provides the opening theme music, which establishes the mood for the show. Similarly, Akari Kito expertly brings the closing song to life as well.
About the Manga
On December 13, 2018, Hatsuharu’s A Girl & Her Guard Dog, which he wrote and illustrated, started serialising in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Friend magazine. Because of Hatsuharu’s health, the manga was put on pause in March 2023. April 12, 2019, was the release date of the first tankobon volume. The nine-volume set has been published as of September 2023.
