Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ likely to release directly on OTT: Reports

As reported by LetsCinema, makers of ‘Oh My God 2’ have opted for an OTT release and might go for Voot or Jio Cinema.

New Delhi: According to reports, Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘OMG 2’ is likely to release directly on OTT. Following Akshay’s back-to-back flops in theatres, it is speculated that ‘OMG 2’ will have a digital release. As reported by LetsCinema, makers of ‘Oh My God 2’ have opted for an OTT release and might go for Voot or Jio Cinema.

Bollywood’s ‘khiladi’ and superstar Akshay Kumar has had ‘Bachchan Pandey’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Ram Setu’, and ‘Selfiee’ among others getting flopped and this is speculated to be a reason behind this big decision. While in his long career, he has delivered big hits, including ‘Oh My God’, he is surely not having a great time at the box office and has also taken the onus on himself for his films performing poorly financially.

On the other hand, ‘OMG’ faced a backlash for questioning religion and traditions, and in such polarised times with ‘Boycott Bollywood’ made to trend on social media, this might be one of the reasons to go for an OTT release.

The makers have, however, not confirmed anything about the OTT release.

Directed by Amit Rai, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Arun Govil and Yami Gautam in lead roles. The sequel to ‘OMG’ will also have a religious angle to it while the plot has not been announced yet.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar also has ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and ‘Hera Pheri 3’ in the pipeline. He is also set to feature in the Soorarai Potturu’s Hindi remake.
