Amar Singh Chamkila OTT Release Date: Watch this biographical film of the ‘Indian Pop Star Duo’ starring Diljit & Parineeti

New Delhi: Netflix is gearing up to launch the international premiere of Amar Singh Chamkila, which stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur were a popular Punjabi pop duo, and their lives are the subject of a biographical film directed by Imtiaz Ali.

In 1988, Chamkila, his wife Amarjot Kaur, and two members of their band were reportedly assassinated. The film follows their rise from modest origins to the height of their fame. Skipping the theatrical release by its producers, the film – Amar Singh Chamkila will shortly make its debut on the most prominent streaming behemoth.

Plot

This biopic chronicles the lives of the legendary 80s singing duo Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, whose songs served as both social commentary and devotionals.

The film follows Amar from his modest origins to his rise to fame and the adoration of his supporters. In carving out a special place for himself, he met his love, Amarjot Kaur, who became his singing partner.  He became the best-selling artist in Punjab because of his unwavering conviction in himself and his abilities, which are shown in the film.

However, he with his wife and two other band members was assassinated, after he was allegedly the target of public criticism for his lyrics.

The official trailer for Amar Singh Chamkila is making waves online. The trailer shows us a glimpse of Chamkila’s life by highlighting the praise he garnered from his fans for his abilities. The story then jumps to the past to reveal his rags-to-riches story and how he became famous.

When and Where to Watch?

On April 12, 2024, the film Amar Singh Chamkila will make its debut on Netflix, serving as the global premiere.

Cast and Crew

Under Imtiaz Ali’s direction, Amar Singh Chamkila features Diljit Dosanjh as the title character, Parineeti Chopra as his wife Amarjot Kaur, and supporting parts from Anurag Arora, Anjum Batra, and Samuel John.

The film Amar Singh Chamkila, which was produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films, is based on the fascinating life story of Amar Singh Chamkila, the legendary Elvis of Punjab. A. R. Rahman created the music and Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics for the film.
