New Delhi: With his unique filmmaking style and commitment to independent voices, Anurag Kashyap has established himself as one of Bollywood’s most unconventional filmmakers. Throughout his career, he has consistently chosen to work with newcomers and relatively unknown actors, rather than opting for established stars. This distinctive approach has become a hallmark of Kashyap’s work. Let’s explore the reasons behind his preference for fresh talent and his reluctance to collaborate with big stars.

Anurag Kashyap big revelation

During a conversation with Film Companion, Anurag Kashyap was asked about his tendency to avoid working with established stars, despite their desire to collaborate with him. Kashyap responded by stating that while many actors express interest in working with him, their expectations often revolve around recreating the success of his previous films like Dev.D, Gangs of Wasseypur, or Manmarziyaan. He emphasized that he seeks actors who are open to exploring new and unconventional projects, rather than repeating past successes. Kashyap’s intention is to push boundaries and work with actors who are willing to break free from preconceived notions.

In addition, Kashyap shared instances where stars approached him, asking to create films similar to his previous successes. He mentioned actors requesting to work on projects like Dev.D or Manmarziyaan. Kashyap acknowledged that if he were to deliver a blockbuster, the expectations placed upon him might change. However, he expressed his personal desire to collaborate with renowned actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay Sethupathi.

After the release of Bombay Velvet in 2015, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap faced negative critical reception and a box-office failure. Following this experience, Kashyap made a conscious decision to avoid big actors and large-scale productions.
