‘Artists have no religion,’ says Indian Idol fame Farmani Naaz after Muslim body calls it ‘against Islam’

Deoband-based cleric Mufti Asad Qasmi suggested that Muslim women must stay away from singing such songs.

New Delhi: Indian Idol fame Farmani Naaz triggered a controversy for singing a Shiv Bhajan  ‘Har Har Shambhu.’  After the release of her song, some Muslim clerics allegedly called it ‘anti-Islamic.’

The song was posted on the YouTube by Farmani Naaz on July 24, so far it has received over  600,000 views.

Maulana Mufti Asad Qasmi, Ulama of Deoband said that  singing & dancing is prohibited in Islam. Also, Muslims should refrain from doing anything that is forbidden.

Following which she reminded them that an artist has no religion. She further said that she has never received a threat.

“Artists have no religion. I forget everything else when I sing. I even sing qawwali. Even Mohd Rafi & Master Saleem sang devotional songs. I’ve never received a threat. There’s a little controversy now, we came to know but nobody has come to our house to say anything, “she said.

On the other hand, Mufti Zulfiqar said, “as per Constitution, every citizen can do anything to praise a religion but should not hurt anybody’s sentiments. There’s no problem with that. Until I listen to the lyrics of the bhajan, I can’t issue any statement on it. Until then I can’t say anything about it.”
