As fans celebrate Comic-Con in San Diego, check out 5 upcoming superhero films, web series

New Delhi: Superhero is a genre loved by all ages, be it MCU films or web series like ‘The Boys’, this genre rules over others. There are several projects by Marvel Studios, DC Comics and other major superhero franchises lined up and ready to release.

As we celebrate comic books and superheroes at San Diego Comic-Con, here is a list of upcoming superhero films and shows releasing in both theatres and OTT platforms:

1. DC League of Superpets

If superheroes themselves were not enough, DC brings a film on their pets. The film stars Krypto, Superman’s dog and Ace, batman’s dog in their adventures. Krypto has been voiced by Dwayne Johnson while Ace gets its voice from Kevin Hart.

Directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine, the animated film is set to release in theatres on July 29.

2. The Sandman

DC is here with its own ‘Sandman’. The series follows Dream, the personification of dreams, who upon escaping the decades-long imprisonment by a mortal wizard sets about to reclaim his lost equipment. The web series stars Tom Sturridge as Dream along with, Gwendoline Christie, Boyd Holbrook and Jenna Coleman with other cast members.

The creators behind the series are Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. The Sandman will release on Netflix on August 5.

3. I am Groot

Groot is a character loved by all the MCU fans, and now it comes with its own web series. It will be a series of shorts featuring the seedling Groot along with several new and unusual characters.

Groot is voiced by Vin Diesel, and the series will premiere on August 10 on Disney+Hotstar.

4. She-Hulk: Attorney of Law

MCU’s Phase 4 brings more of female leads, after Sylvie, Wanda and Jane Foster, it is time for She-Hulk. The show follows Jennifer Walters navigating the complicated life of a single attorney in her 30s, who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The web series stars Tatiana Maslany, Jameela Jamil, Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth in the lead roles.

The show will release on August 17 on Disney+Hotstar.

5. Black Adam

DC’s upcoming venture Black Adam brings the mortal enemy of Shazam into the picture. The plot reads, “Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods-and imprisoned just as quickly-Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”

The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and features Dwayne Johnson in the titular role. The film also stars Sarah Shahi, Peirce Brosnan and Noah Centineo. Black Adam is expected to release on October 21 in cinemas.
