At the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Zoya Akhtar and Luca Guadagnino will start planning new collab projects

Tiger Baby Films said that they are delighted to honour Luca Guadagnino and that they are significant admirers of the director’s body of work.

New Delhi: According to Variety, during the current Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Tiger Baby Films, run by Zoya and Reema Kagti, is laying the groundwork for future collaborations with the Italian filmmaker – Luca Guadagnino.

Luca’s impressive body of work will be honoured at this year’s MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which is being hosted by Tiger Baby. The festival issued a statement saying that the celebration of Luca Guadagnino’s contributions to world cinema at Tiger Baby marks a significant step toward fostering international collaboration and sharing diverse stories with a global audience. The statement was included in the festival’s plan booklet.

This festival intends to bring together Indian directors, new talents, and cinephiles from across the world. According to the statement, the gathering will serve as a venue for the development of original material, the promotion of cultural dialogue, and the facilitation of international cooperation in the field of film.

In addition, Tiger Baby Films said that they are delighted to honour Luca Guadagnino and that they are significant admirers of the director’s body of work. According to them, there are a lot of filmmakers in the sector who are just like them, and they will all soon get the chance to talk to him and let him know that he will always be welcome at Jio MAMI and in India.

When Zoya is serving on the board of directors at MAMI, Luca is giving a masterclass at the festival. Priyanka Chopra, Chairperson of MAMI, presented him with the Excellence in Cinema (International) award at the inaugural event on Friday night, which took place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. He also won this honour (NMACC). ‘I Am Love’, his Italian romance picture that was nominated for the Oscar Award in 2009 and starred Tilda Swinton, is one of the films that will be shown at the festival.

In addition to ‘Suspiria’ (2018) and the feature documentary ‘Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams,’ Guadagnino’s filmography also includes ‘A Bigger Splash’ (2015), ‘Call Me By Your Name’ (2017) (which won an Academy Award), and ‘A Bigger Splash’ (2020). As best director, Guadagnino took home the Silver Lion at Venice for his work on ‘Bones and All’ (2022). It was in the HBO drama series ‘We Are Who We Are’ that he first appeared on television (2020). His next feature film, based on William S. Burroughs’ book ‘Queer,’ is now in post-production, and it will star Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor.

The two filmmakers will next be seen in ‘The Archies,’ a Netflix film inspired by the classic comic books that was written by them and directed by Akhtar and will be available to watch beginning on December 7.

On October 29th, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai will play host to Guadagnino’s workshop and the event itself. The celebration lasts until the 5th of November.
