Reports also have it that makers are planning to bring a film that will center around Ryan Gosling’s character Ken who won over the fan’s heart in Barbie

During its days on the big screen, the film became the biggest affair of the year and minded a monumental sum of $1,440,574,468 from the ticket window.

Post the film’s tremendous success, speculation about its sequel also started making noise on the internet. Netizens wondered if Warner Bros will ever bring the next installment of the mega-hit film or if it will refrain from taking any such risks as the same can dent the reputation of this iconic movie.

Barbie’s Monumental Success at Box Office

Ever since its release on July 21st, 2023, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie slammed the box office with a bang and achieved several unimaginable feats. It not only became the highest-grossing film of all time with a female director, but also overshadowed its competitor Oppenheimer who clashed with it and introduced the fans to a cultural phenomenon Barbieheimer.

Barbie sequel

When Margot, the film’s lead actress, was asked about Barbie 2 by AP Entertainment, she said “I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. It was like Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”

She later went on to speak about Barbie and shared the gist from its remarkable journey at the Box office while saying that one should believe in original movies with a proper budget that gets them executed properly. The actress also added that Barbie’s success has also proved wrong the typical mindset of society which believes that a film revolving around a a female lead character can never hit all four quadrants.

Fans react

Margot’s statement made it pretty clear that there won’t be any sequel to Barbie and drew mixed reactions from the franchise’s fans. While some were left dejected after knowing that they wouldn’t get to see Barbie 2 anytime soon, others felt proud that the makers were not taking any chances with the sequel as the same can spoil the film.

One fan wrote, “I agree with her Barbie is an amazing move and they should not destroy its reputation by forcing a sequel. A second individual said, “Anyone who has watched the film knows that it doesn’t need a sequel, it will mess up this franchise.”

A third user commented, “Barbie had a satisfactory ending, and not every movie needs to have a sequel let its first part be its last one.” “And please keep it that way! Don’t mess up the franchise please’, read a 4th comment.
