Love is in the air as we are in the middle of Valentine’s week. This week is the celebration of love, trust, compromises, and promises. However, sometimes, things may not turn out the way you expect. Just like love is part of life so are betrayal and infidelity.

The whole B-Town is talking about Shakun Batra’s much-anticipated movie Gehraiyaan. The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa in lead roles. The movie explores the theme of complicated relationships and infidelity. Although the movie is getting mixed reviews from critics, fans have loved the intense performance of the actors and the metaphors related to the water scenes.

But before watching Gehraiyaan, Bollywood has presented us with numerous films that deal with similar themes. Let’s take a look at some of those:

1. Silsila

Directed by Yash Chopra, Silsila was released in 181 with a strong cast base namely Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Rekha in the lead roles. The movie narrates complications of infidelity but also the journey of Shabana’s character Pooja’s quest to find her own identity and agency. The movie is considered way ahead of time.

3. Murder

A massive hit at the box office, Murder showcased one of the engaging performances of Emraan Hashmi. The movie starred Emraan Hashmi, Mallika Sherawat, and Ashmit Patel. Mallika’s character Simran married to Sudhir (Ashmit Patel) feels stuck in the loveless relationship when he coincidentally meets her ex-lover Sunny (Emraan Hashmi) and takes a turn towards a love affair. The movie becomes suspenseful and racy after Sunny get murdered.

4. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Directed by Karan Johar, the movie features some big stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, and Amitabh Bachchan. The movie narrates the story of two disturbed, unhappy spouses: Maya (Rani) married to Rishi (Abhishek) and Dev (Shah Rukh) married to Rhea (Preity). While Maya and Dev help each other to save their respective families, accidentally fall in love with each other. Though a bit lengthy, the movie has some amazing songs.

5. Life In A…Metro

The movie has a brilliant stars cast and was lauded for their performance, well-written storyline, and amazing screenplay. Released in 2007, the movie dealt with extramarital affairs and beautifully questioned the idea of marriage, love, and fidelity. The characters created a lasting impact on the audiences’ minds and their music album is still a hit. In other words, it is a must-watch!

6. The Lunchbox

The 2013 masterpiece won awards and hearts not only nationally but also internationally. Directed by Ritesh Batra, the movie stars Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The movie revolves around an unlikely friendship between Ila (Nimrat) and Saajan (Irrfan) that subtly turns to love over a lunchbox. The brilliance in the actors’ performances and the storyline leave no stone unturned.

7. Rustom

A story based on the naval officer K.M. Nanavati and his famous court trial that ended the jury system in India. Akshay Kumar plays the role of Rustom Pavri, the naval officer accused of murdering Vikram (Arjan Bajwa) who is having an affair with his wife Cynthia (Ileana D’Cruz). As the story proceeds, several secrets are unfolded. Akshay Kumar also won a national award for best actor for this movie.

8. Haseen Dillruba

A murder mystery starring Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Harshvardan Rane will keep your eyes locked into the screen till the end. Rani (Taapsee) who is in a loveless marriage with Rishu aka Rishab (Vikrant) falls for his cousin Neel (Harshvardan). The story takes a turn after Neel runs away betraying Rani and Rishu finds out about their affair.
