Bhakshak’s hard-hitting trailer

Ever since its release, the Bhumi starrer’s trailer has become a talking point amongst fans for various reasons. While some are buzzing about the blunt portrayal of numerous jaw-dropping instances in the movie, others are shaken by its hard-hitting depiction of a series of heinous crimes inspired by a real-life case (Muzaffarpur shelter case)  that unfolded in Bihar about half a decade ago.

Bhakshak Movie True Story

The gruesome Muzzafarpur sexual assault case first came into the limelight in 2018 when the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) mentioned the prevalent sexual & physical abuses faced by the women in several shelter homes across Bihar.

In their report, the institute made a special reference to Muzzaffarpur’s Balika Greh & claimed that physical and sexual violations are going on in many shelter homes located in different locations throughout Bihar.

Within no time, TISS’s shocking allegations started making the headlines & enraged masses began to put pressurize on the authorities & administration to look into the matter. Eventually, an FIR was lodged against the stakeholders of Balika Greh in Muzaffarpur’s women’s police station, and all the young girls residing there were made to migrate from there temporarily.

Forced to sleep naked

Later, during the course of the investigation, a medical examination was conducted on the girls who used to live inside Balika Greh’s & its result shook the entire nation. The medical test revealed that 34 of the 42 teenagers of Balika Greh have been sexually abused & physically assaulted by the caretakers of the home shelter.

Following that, the authorities learned that on numerous occasions, the accused men used to impregnate the victim girls and then compel them to undergo abortions, consume birth-control pills & sleep naked. Besides that, Multiple media reports even claimed that the body of a girl who lost her life due to the culprits’ inhumane acts has also been buried underneath the premises of the shelter home.

Life Imprisonment for Accused

The shocking revelations saw the authorities immediately swinging into action as the case’s mastermind Brajesh Thakur, who was also the chief of the government-funded NGO responsible for administering Balika Greh, was arrested by the police along with 10 other accused persons.

All of them then initially faced trial under the POSCO Act and eventually, the matter was transferred to the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI). Finally, in 2020, the case concluded with the court awarding Thakur a rigorous life imprisonment for assaulting minor victims both physically and sexually.
