Box Office Trends: Varisu and Thunivu collectively earns Rs 50 crores on the opening day

The success of Thunivu and Varisu has once again demonstrated the devoted fan base that both Vijay and Ajith have. The two names from Tamil Nadu justifiably prove the term ‘Superstar’.

New Delhi: Celebrations have been witnessed all over Tamil Nadu’s cinema halls as two of Kollywood’s largest audience snatchers, Ajith Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay, emerged with their respective films, Thunivu and Varisu. Fans had celebrated on the streets since midnight, standing in line to see their idol on the big screen.

As expected both south Indian films had a great start in the cinema halls of Tamil Nadu. Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu had its premiere at around 1 am, meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu started at around 4:30 am.

Both films had a number of visitors of approximately 85 to 90 per cent for the entire day and observed no signs of waning at the box office on the first day. The two films were so popular that they booked houseful shows throughout the state ahead of time.

Box office Trends on the opening day:

As per the initial box office trends, Thunivu is on track for a starting day gross of Rs 18.50 to 20.50 crore, whereas the Varisu has a state gross of Rs 17 to 19 crore. The contrast between the two films is minor, owing primarily to Thunivu’s ability to secure more screenings than Varisu.

Beyond Tamil Nadu, both Thunivu and Varisu performed similarly at the box office. However, in this particular instance, Varisu has a significant advantage over Thunivu. Outside of Tamil Nadu, Varisu is expected to earn in the range of between Rs 8.50 crore to 9.00 crore, while Thunivu is expected to earn in the range of between Rs 8.00 to 8.50 crore.

Both films’ All India Gross will be somewhere in the range of Rs 27 crore, bringing the merged full-day total to around Rs 54 crore.
