Can RRR grab Oscars or BAFTA, after Golden Globe & Critics Award?: Decoding its chances

RRR has already garnered admiration in the UK. If it makes it into BAFTA final nominations, RRR would officially surpass not just Indian Cinema but go beyond the US market as well.

New Delhi: RRR is not going to stop with its splendid performance anytime soon. After Naatu Naatu’s historical win at Golden Globes, the film has touched another milestone by winning not just one but two awards at Critics Choice Award. RRR won in the Best Foreign Language Film category, at the award ceremony held in Los Angeles while Naatu Naatu won in the category of Best song.

BAFTA FINAL NOMINATION

Now the next checkpoint for RRR would be making it to the final 5 nominations in the Non-English Language Film category. The film has already garnered admiration in the UK. If it makes it into BAFTA final nominations, RRR would officially surpass not just Indian Cinema but go beyond the US market as well.

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiwadi was also vying for BAFTA but failed to make it in any category during the first list of nominations.

BAFTA Ceremony

If RRR secures a place in the final round of BAFTA nominations, it will be competing against the award on February 19 at the Royal Festival Hall in Southbank.

OSCARS 2023 NOMINATIONS

On 12th January, not just RRR but as many as 5 movies from down south and other 2 regional pieces of Cinema made it into the list of Oscars’ list of 301 movies that will be competing for the second round of nomination.

24th January would be the day when the Academy Awards will release the list of nominations for various categories. Team RRR is hoping to at least get in one category. Besides RRR, India also has high hopes from its official entry in the Oscars, the Chhelo Show.

OSCAR CEREMONY

This year Oscars would be held at Dolby Theater in LA, California on 12th March.

If SS Rajamouli’s RRR makes a cut, then team RRR would get to be on the esteemed red carpet of the 95th Academy award.
