Cannes 2023: Aishwarya Rai answers why she’s not offered complex roles like in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’

In her latest interview at the film festival, the actor opened up about not getting complex roles in her career.

New Delhi: Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made yet another appearance at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2023. Aishwarya stunned the fashion world with a silver hooded outfit and continued to make her mark since 2002. In her latest interview at the film festival, the actor opened up about not getting complex roles in her career.

Talking about playing Nandini and her mute mother Mandakini Devi in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ franchise, Aishwarya answered the ‘silent question’ of not getting such nuanced roles in Bollywood. In the interview with Film Companion and NDTV, the actor said that such questions arise when something turns out so good for creative people and the audience. She added that such questions arising is in itself a rewarding moment for women actors.

She appreciated Mani Ratnam for coming up with such roles and said that the whole team of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ was satisfied with the work they did.

Aishwarya earned a lot of appreciation from the audiences as well as the critics for her acting in ‘PS 2’. Based on a novel by Kalki, the film also stars ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

Aishwarya made it to the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in a shimmering oversized gown with a hood. She chose a glittery green outfit by Valentino for the day when she appeared for the interview. She arrived at Cannes with her daughter Aaradhya and received a warm welcome. While there have been other Bollywood celebs and Indian critics appearing at Cannes, no one has made a mark like Aishwarya.
