New Delhi: A varied collection of Indian films is storming the world scene at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, making it a watershed moment for Indian cinema.

This year, this esteemed film festival will be showcasing a plethora of Indian films from different states.

The opening of the 77th Cannes Film Festival was May 14, 2024, and the festival will run until May 25, 2024. Opening hours for May 13–14 were 11:30 am–11:30 pm IST, and for May 15–25, were 12:30 pm–9:30 pm IST, as stated on the official website.

France Television in France will be broadcasting the event live. The official YouTube account and website of Cannes will also be live-streaming the event, so anybody around the globe may see it.

1. All We Imagine As Light

This film, directed by Payal Kapadia, follows Nurse Prabha and is set in Mumbai. Her routine is disrupted when her separated husband surprises her with a present. In vain, her younger roommate Anu searches the city to have an intimate encounter with her husband.

2. Santosh

Filmmaker Sandhya Suri’s feature-length directorial follows Santosh as she takes up her late husband’s position as a police constable in Northern India’s remote badlands. Her involvement in the investigation into the discovery of a girl’s death begins when she is taken under the wing of Inspector Sharma.

3. Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know

Chidanand Naik, a student at the Film and Television Institute of India, directed the short film Sunflowers Were First Ones To Know. The village is in chaos after an elderly woman steals the rooster. The old lady’s family is exiled to bring the rooster back by prophecy.

4. Manthan

In the Shyam Benegal film, a veterinary doctor Dr. Rao visits a rural community to establish a milk cooperative for the benefit of the locals. Unfortunately, this has upset both Sarpanch and the rich businessman Mishraji. Witnessing Dr Rao’s White Revolution is an experience not to be missed.

5. Sister Midnight

In Mumbai, Karan Kandhari’s film follows an arranged marriage that turns sour as the husband sees his wife become a brute.

6. The Shameless

Renuka flees to a northern Indian sex worker settlement after murdering a policeman in a Delhi brothel. She has an illicit affair with 17-year-old Devika. They seek freedom against all obstacles.

7. In The Retreat

Maisam Ali says this feature follows a guy through a night. The missing one returns to a mountain town between fall and winter. In his 50s, usually late and having missed his brother’s burial, he stands at the old home’s doorway.

8. Bunnyhood

The short animation follows Innocent Bobby as he finds out in a surprising last-minute visit to the doctor the answer to the query (“Mum would never lie to me, would she?”).

9. Kooki

In this story, a gang rape ruins the present and future for a 16-year-old girl named Kooki, and the subsequent court ruling leaves her feeling deceived and unjustified.

10. Iruvam

One of the four submissions for the Let’s Spook Cannes Event 2024 is the bilingual film Iruvam, which was shot in both Tamil and English. The film is an action-packed video game that takes viewers on a personalized cinematic adventure.
