Als0, when Jacques Cartier visited India, he inspected the Indian rulers’ spectacular gemstone collections. He presented a world of luxury to the west that was never seen or known before this.  Maharaja Bhupinder Singh’s jewellery collection was displayed by the Cartier at an exhibition on 13 Rue de la Paix, which saw visitors coming from all over the world at the venue to see them.

In 1948, this beautiful piece of jewellery went missing from the Patiala royal treasury. However, after 34 years the De Beers diamond  reappeared at a 1982 Sotheby’s auction but without the necklace. It cost $3 million at that time. While after 16 years, the missing part of the necklace was made available at a small antiques shop in London.

After which the necklace was bought by the Cartier. Later the missing stones were replaced by the replicas. It is said that if this piece of Patiala necklace had been at its original form, then it would have cost at least $30 million.
