New Delhi: Echo, Marvel’s first TV series of 2024, lays the stage for a titanic confrontation between mentee and master. In her comeback role, Alaqua Cox plays Maya Lopez, a young lady who falls victim to Wilson Fisk or Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Maya retaliates and seeks to reassert her authority in Echo. She faces a cunning adversary, however. Disney Plus Hotstar will launch the five-part series on January 10, 2024.
Plot
Echo is a film produced by Marvel Studios that takes place after the events of Hawkeye, which took place in 2021. In that film, Maya Lopez exacted her vengeance on Kingpin, leaving herself in a precarious situation.
Review
Echo, the latest series from Studios, is about to become one of the most-watched shows in the Marvel Universe. Echo spins off Maya Lopez’s tale from Hawkeye and follows Alaqua Cox’s anti-hero character.
For the first time in the Marvel universe, the original series has a higher adult classification from TV-MA. Even though Maya is only a young girl, she faces tough enemies that she must defeat using both firearms and hand-to-hand fighting. Echo brings a level of honesty and authenticity to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has been absent for a long time.
#Echo (Review)
Solid. Loved the inclusion of ASL & Native American culture, it was a refreshing vibe. Maya’s storyline is emotionally compelling, but I wish the finale’s buildup & the utilization of her powers were more polished—a sixth EP would’ve been nice.

The series does not sugarcoat the brutality that is commonplace while working with Kingpin’s gang. The action scenes were exciting, but the plot and characters could have used more room to grow. The storyline can only go so far with Maya and the people she meets in her world.
When it comes to her portrayal of the character, Alaqua Cox is outstanding and strong. Both the character’s emotions and its body are nailed by her. As of now, D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin is insufficient.
Cody Lightning and Graham Greene provide some comedic relief, and the rest of the ensemble gives honest performances as well.
Rather than contributing to the story’s natural progression, the cameos of many well-known MCU heroes in these three episodes come off as fluff. Despite her checkered past and resolute rejection of cooperation, Maya is a daunting heroine whom audiences may rally around, like many heroes in the Marvel world. Echo is now the ideal series to binge-watch with the release in Disney Plus Hotstar.
Just finished #Echo (Very minor spoiler review)
You can definitely see that a whole episode has been cut
which raises some pacing issues.
A lot of time was spent on “recapping” in the 1st episode which could’ve easily been done with just a short reel before starting the show.… pic.twitter.com/QwmqgiwkAo— Lachesis (@LachesisHD) January 10, 2024
Echo is a refreshingly gritty, grounded, and unflinchingly violent superhero story – though its connections to the larger MCU continuity may run deeper than advertised.

ECHO REVIEW: 🧵
Echo is a raw and gritty character study of Maya Lopez and her connections to her culture, her family, and the Kingpin. This is a clear-cut standalone adventure with STELLAR action that benefits from a TV-MA rating and a separation from the larger MCU, allowing us… pic.twitter.com/6n0byXtHT9— ໊ (@WandasAttorney) January 10, 2024
#Echo is the MCU like you’ve never seen before. It’s bloody, action-packed, and frightening. Alaqua Cox is so admirably talented that is impossible not to enjoy. Some plot moments could’ve been better developed but this show is honestly a true winner.
