Emily in Paris Season 3 Review: Less Emily more Drama?

Starting off in high fashion and even higher fashion emergencies, the series begins with a big decision on Emily’s head, Sylvie or Madeline.

New Delhi: Starting off in high fashion and even higher fashion emergencies, the series begins with a big decision on Emily’s head, Sylvie or Madeline. Does she leave her mentor to continue her life in Paris or does she go back and the next season becomes Emily in Chicago? We’ll let you find out. Any story placed in a backdrop of Paris would have us enchanted, but by season 3 we’d need more. Lily-Collins starring in ‘Emily in Paris’ provides us a POV of what life would be like in Paris if we were Emily. While Season 1 and Season 2 were extremely loved by the audiences for their high-end fashion and the good-looking cast members, Season 3 dropped on 21st December 2022 on Netflix, and we have some things to say.

Before telling you what we felt about Season 3, let’s catch up on what has happened till now. Emily moved to Paris to work in marketing and after some struggles to fit in, she finally manages to make her place in her work credits to her zestful personality and brilliant ideas. After finding a best friend Mindy, played by Ashley Park, who will make you want to have her as your own best friend, and a hot boo Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo, Emily finds out that Gabriel has a girlfriend. Despite a sparkling fling with Gabriel, Emily moves on for the sake of maintaining a friendship with Camille (Gabriel’s girlfriend) and falls in love with Alfie, a suave Londoner played by Lucien Laviscount and ruins things with him too by the end of the season 2.

Season 2 ends and Season 3 begins with Emily at crossroads of whether she stays in Paris and works with Sylvie, her boss in Paris who now was planning to start her own company, or go back to Chicago with Madeline, her American boss and mentor. All of this intense drama is thrown in the backdrop of the breathtakingly gorgeous ‘Paree’ (Paris) along with outfits that’ll make you question your own wardrobe, and there you have it, Emily in Paris!

Coming to Season 3, the new season explores more into the lives of other characters and their arcs, and Emily is relatively stable compared to the past 2 seasons where she was the centre of all the theatrics. Mindy is the first of these characters, her dream to be a singer was spoken of at the beginning of the show when she sings ‘La Vie en Rose’ on a park bench, and this fresh season shows a Mindy that has come far from that park bench both in her career and in her romantic life.

Gabriel and Camille’s individual lives are also shown more than in the past and they haven’t disappointed. Gabriel and his restaurant and Camille explores her place in Gabriel’s life knowing she tricked Gabriel into being with her. While the show does not disappoint in its extravagant wardrobe and spectacular views of the city and the countryside, there are some things we missed while watching this guilty pleasure of a show.

Though It was fulfilling to watch all these beautiful characters and their lives, the usual dramatics of Emily was missing this time. Her fluency in French excluded there wasn’t much focus on Emily throughout the season relatively and that was the essence of the show. Emily’s way of messing up and then cleaning up her messes is what kept us finding her relatable, but that was absent to some extent in this season making her seem almost like a marketing prodigy with great dressing sense.

Despite the lack of the Emily drama, Season 3 of Emily in Paris is equally exciting and fun to watch as it was previously. The other characters make up for the lack of entertainment from Emily’s side and take the driving seat which is interesting to watch since we’re all invested in them equally by now. The fashion and costume department of the show deserves credit for keeping up the fashion game throughout. Binge this fun show alone or with your girlfriends and enjoy the extravagant looks, captivating locales, and of course the handsome Lucas Bravo!
