“End of an iconic chapter”: PM Modi, Shashi Tharoor & others pour in condolences for Malayalam Superstar Innocent

Big names from the Entertainment industry and politics have come forward to pay their tributes to the actor who defined comedy in his unique style.

New Delhi: The demise of the ‘godfather of comedy’ Innocent is being mourned as the end of an era by the South Indian Cinema.

Innocent Vareed Thekkethala, who has also served as a Lok Sabha MP from the Chalakkudy constituency, took his last breath on Sunday at the age of 75.

According to the medical report released by VP Lakeshore Hospital, multiple organ failure and respiratory issues resulted in his death.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his condolences with a tweet. He wrote, ” Pained by the passing away of noted actor and former MP Shri Innocent Vareed Thekkethala. He will be remembered for enthralling audiences and filling people’s lives with humour. Condolences to his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace: PM

Calling Innocent a gifted actor, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor wrote, ” Mourning the loss of character actor, comedian & one-time Kerala MP Innocent, who has just passed away at age 75.”

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran remembered Innocent by calling him a legend. “End of an iconic chapter in cinema history! Rest in peace Legend! #Innocent” 

Tamil Actress and BJP member Khushboo Sunder mourned the loss industry losing a ‘priceless gem’. She tweeted “Devastated!! We have lost a great actor. Moreso a great human being. What a legend he was. With the passing away of #Innocent Sir, we have lost a priceless gem. May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and his followers. Om Shanti.”

Last Rites

The last rites of Innocent Vareed Thekkethala will be performed on Tuesday in Iringalakuda. The public viewing ceremony will be held today at 8 PM. Last respect to his mere mortals can be paid at Kotchi, Emakulam, Swasati, and lastly, Iringalakuda.
